#Muyada Temple Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jul)
Temples
Address:
Tagong Town, Kangding City, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture
Recommended sightseeing time:
1-2 hour
Gedelam + Yuzixi two-day shallow tour
Go to Gedelam and get close to the clouds☁️
Go to Yuzixi to see the Gongga Snow Mountain in the distance🗻 (It was too cold, and I got a cold and caused high altitude sickness and soon got on the car to inhale oxygen)
At Muya Temple, I followed the Tibetans and turned a circle of prayer wheels💫 Listening to their mantras, my heart was very peaceful, everyone was devout (The guide told us that we must have a beginning and an end🌾 We must go around)
Warm reminder: Bring scarves, hats, and thermos cups, keep warm as much as possible, especially Yuzixi is high in altitude and very open, the wind will be very biting. The guide told us not to buy the dried beef sold by the Tibetans on the side of the road, many of them are made of duck meat and groundhog meat, you can go to eat the roasted beef skewers, but we didn't encounter it🍀

With this guide in hand, head for the mountains and seas
After many trips to Western Sichuan, each time I am greeted with different surprises: vast grasslands, emerald lakes, towering snow-capped mountains, a feast of rainbows, and the Milky Way in the sky. All these wonderful things can be fully appreciated in Garzê. I have compiled some of my favorite treasure spots for everyone. In just a weekend, you can check off many classic sights. With this guide in hand, head for the mountains and seas!
1️⃣ Tagong Grassland🏔️
'Tagong' means 'a place the Bodhisattva likes', and every time I go to Western Sichuan, I enjoy my time on the Tagong Grassland, where I see Mount Yala in the shape of a lotus throne surrounded by petals.
2️⃣ Balang Shengdu🌇
This place is known as the secret realm of Garzê and is also known as the pasture closest to the sky. From the viewing platform, you can see Mount Gongga and Mount Yala 360 degrees, just like in Yuzixi. On a clear day, you can witness the sun shining on the golden mountain, and capturing a silhouette of the sunset is also very photogenic~
3️⃣ Yajiang Tianlong Lake🌈🌈
This is not the Norwegian fjords, but Tianlong Lake in Yajiang County, Garzê Prefecture. The shape of the lake is very similar to a dragon and it originates from the celestial Yalong River, hence the name Tianlong Lake. I remember reaching the lake after passing through more than a dozen, nearly twenty tunnels, enduring a journey of wind and rain before it finally cleared up, and a double rainbow appeared in the sky, hanging over Tianlong Lake, reflecting beautifully with the lake and mountains.
4️⃣ Muya Monastery🏔️
The exact location of Muya Monastery is in Kangding City, Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, on Provincial Highway 215. Muya Monastery has the world's largest Mani stone pile and is known as the 'Little Sêrtar of Garzê'. There is no commercial atmosphere here yet, cattle and sheep roam freely, and you can gaze at Mount Yala from a distance, with different scenery throughout the four seasons.
5️⃣ Xinduqiao Gongga Snow Mountain Viewing Platform🌤
Every time I go to Xinduqiao, I hike to this viewing platform. What attracts me is not just the view of Mount Gongga, but the continuous meadows and colorful flowers, as if I've stumbled into the animated world of Hayao Miyazaki.
6️⃣ Yala Snow Mountain Viewing Platform🐼
The viewing platform is located on Panda Avenue in Daofu County. The journey along this road with its high mountains, canyons, streams, and snow-capped mountains is breathtaking.
7️⃣ Danba Tibetan Village🌲
Located in Danba County, Garzê Prefecture, in the western part of Sichuan, from afar, the spiritually vibrant valley is filled with emerald green grass and trees, heavy fields, and village houses hidden deep in the dense forest. Accompanied by the occasional babbling streams, a dynamic and exquisite mountain village painting unfolds before your eyes.

Kangding 'Muya Monastery'
Hidden in the grand temple complex of western Sichuan|||Muya Monastery is a grand temple complex that includes a Buddhist college, Tibetan college, Jomo Temple, Lama Temple, and more, even more spectacular and magnificent than Tagong Temple!
Temple location📍
Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Kangding County, Tagong Township, Sichuan Province
Temple introduction
Muya Monastery, also known as Muya Wuming Buddhist College, once you get here you'll notice so many vehicles🚗 coming and going at the entrance, but hardly anyone actually enters, making Muya Monastery quite niche. Passing through a red residential area of the faithful🏠, you can see Muya Monastery standing on the grassland, surrounded by mountains and backed by Yala Snow Mountain. Every year from the 1st of the 10th month of the Tibetan calendar to the 15th of January of the following year, a winter Dharma assembly🙏🏻 is held, attracting about 100,000 Tibetans to participate, now becoming one of the centers of Tibetan Buddhist culture in the Kham area.
Temple surroundings check-in spots👇🏻
1. In front of Jomo Temple, there's a colorful Mani stone pile with billions of Mani stones stacked over 200 years of history, where you can buy a stone engraved with scripture to place on the scripture wall.
2. There are many wild animals🐐 near the temple, all rescued and released after being injured, and with some luck, you might encounter wild blue sheep🦙 and deer🦌.
3. The temple is actually open to visitors👌🏻, because few people come, many think it's not accessible, but I believe once you enter, you'll be amazed by the glittering decorations🤩.
4. Standing in the open, you can hear the healing 'surround-sound chanting' from the temple, with distant snow-capped mountains and continuous clouds forming a magnificent landscape.
Why the temple is a niche check-in spot📷
The temple is on the must-pass route G248 to Moshishan Park, but you need to turn into a side road next to the main road and drive for about 5 minutes to see it. Although there is an archway🚏 nearby, sometimes the signs are not clear, so it's easy to miss.

Off-the-beaten-track in Western Sichuan | Tibetan residences in Ganzi and Daofu + Muya Temple against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains
Don't miss the Tibetan-style architecture and culture in Western Sichuan, these two lesser-known destinations allow you to deeply experience the Tibetan culture of Western Sichuan, and they are also very photogenic. They are located along the same route and are not far apart.
🌈┇Daofu
Known as the 'Art Capital of Tibetan Residences' in China, you must stay in a Tibetan-style residence here for one night. It combines ethnic culture, architecture, painting, and sculpture, offering a full experience. The Tibetan residences here are divided into traditional and modern styles, but most tourists are not familiar with them. You can ask the innkeeper for more information. Most inns offer free hot butter tea in the morning, which is a Tibetan hospitality tradition.
🎨Daofu Medicinal Clay Sculpture Art Museum
This is a lesser-known intangible cultural heritage art museum in Daofu. It is home to the fifth-generation inheritor of Chinese medicinal clay culture, and the museum displays the Tibetan medicinal clay masks and Buddha figures he has made.
🌈┇Tagong
The Tagong Prairie has turned yellow in autumn and winter. We drove to the Muya Temple, which is located against the backdrop of the Yala Snow Mountain. It's less crowded and the scenery is stunning! The location is excellent.
Muya Temple is a temple complex consisting of a nunnery, a lama temple, a Buddhist college, and a Tibetan hospital, all with a history of over 300 years. On the second floor, you can visit the world's largest Mani stone pile 'Stone Scripture City'.
You may encounter Tibetan antelopes here, and it's lucky to take a photo with them. On the way here, you can see people riding horses and taking travel photos. There are also some small lakes where you can capture the snow-capped mountains.

🌟There are also many places in these two locations where you can take photos in Tibetan costumes, which look great against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains and residences! I will definitely take photos next time, remember to set aside half a day.
🌟You can see lamas everywhere in these two towns, which is quite impressive.
🌟You must try the Tibetan-style coffee here. There are good coffee shops in these two towns, which are frequented by many lamas. The coffee is quite good, and the unique barley coffee and butter tea coffee are worth trying. Muya Temple
